It gives me immense pleasure to note that the Durgapur Chapter of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) has made its long-due presence in the web through hosting its own page in a befitting manner.
The IIM, Durgapur Chapter started its journey way back in 1961 in a humble, yet significant move by Late Dr. GP Chatterjee, Chief Metallurgist, Durgapur Steel Plant. The small steps have now transformed into giant strides, and the Chapter has made remarkable progress over the years thanks to the members and the patron organizations. Today, the IIM Durgapur Chapter has its own prestigious office building “Dhatu Bhawan” in the heart of the steel city.
The technology in the Iron & Steel industry is changing every day. The technology taught to many of us in college is totally different today. IIM can play a big role in disseminating this new technology to the working professionals in the steel industry. I am sure, the web page of the IIM Durgapur Chapter shall be very informative and shall showcase all events, milestones and important data, interesting compilations and other important information accessible to the world on their computer screen through a click of the mouse. This will benefit not only the working professionals but the veterans and even the students and budding metallurgy aspirants for information-sharing.
I wish this venture a Grand Success.
