It gives me immense pleasure to note that the Durgapur Chapter of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) has made its long-due presence in the web through hosting its own page in a befitting manner.
The IIM, Durgapur Chapter started its journey way back in 1961 in a humble, yet significant move by Late Dr. GP Chatterjee, Chief Metallurgist, Durgapur Steel Plant. The small steps have now transformed into giant strides, and the Chapter has made remarkable progress over the years thanks to the members and the patron organizations. Today, the IIM Durgapur Chapter has its own prestigious office building “Dhatu Bhawan” in the heart of the steel city.
The Durgapur Chapter is a lively body with a synergy of experienced veterans and young, enthusiastic professionals whose dedicated team work makes each and every endeavour of this body a successful venture. The organizing body of IIM Durgapur Chapter in its own traditional way arranges events like Metallurgists’ Day every year to honour professionals from industry / academics for their sustained contribution to the field of metallurgy and besides that, hosts knowledge management programmes that provide the ideal platform for nurturing constructive brainstorming and idea interchange addressing critical and current issues centering the profession.
My heartiest congratulations to the governing body and all Members of Indian Institute of Metals, Durgapur Chapter and all other concerned individuals for creating yet another chapter in the history of this chapter.
I am sure, the web page of the IIM Durgapur Chapter shall be very informative and shall showcase all events, milestones and important data, interesting compilations and other important information accessible to the world on their computer screen through a click of the mouse. This will benefit not only the working professionals, but the veterans and even the students and budding metallurgy aspirants for information-sharing.
I wish this venture a Grand Success.
